i didn't have any plans this weekend. i stayed home all day saturday and helped mom to clean up our garage. it's so satisfying throwing out old shoes, putting things in order and in the process we discovered things we haven't worn for ages, things we forget we have and the things we forget to throw away. i dug up old photos of an ex and i, a seashell necklace that another ex made for me... ahh... memories.
we dropped by a local goodwill store on the way home from church and dropped all our junk. we couldn't resist going in for a quick look, and i found a gorgeous red coat with gold buttons. this is going to be my red riding hood coat. it has an A-line shape, absolutely perfect sleeve length and it's fully lined as well (although the stiches for the lining are kinda itchy). gorgeous! i plan to wear this with my black tights and gold ballet shoes. now if only i have a pair of chunky heels to go with it, too...
i bought a pair of Wicked Opaques 120 Denier from Woolworths over the weekend and they are awesome, y'all. go and get a pair before reading on...
anyhoo, i wanted to wear these tights with my sister's Country Road patent wedges, but it might take some getting used to, they make things a bit slippery.
i wore them today with a pair of leather lace-ups i found from a thrift shop. i just wished these shoes are a bit pointier/almond-toe shaped.
and here's yesterday's outfit, inspired by the flower prints at the Balenciaga show. and since i don't have the legs to pull a knee-length gladiator sandals, i'll just make do with these ones.
on the subject of footwear and such, finding the perfect pair of boots is just next to impossible. i found a pair that has the shape/heel height that i wanted, but the colour wasn't perfect. :(
went to a fave shopping haunt today and got these:
mink pink white safar linen dress and jay jay summer polkadot dress from thrift stores - a total of $12!
and then we went to this random make up place and i got a mascara from a really obsecure brand. i love the packaging though, and the mascara tube feels heavy in my hand (which has got nothing to do with how the product will perform, but...). it's made in china, although they're trying to pass it off as a japanese brand. even the english description on the box is really poor. at least it's cheap - only $6!
last but not least, a bangle from diva ...
i posted a while back about my love for shopping at goodwill/op-shops, we call them in the land down under.
anyhoos, my parent and i all went to blacktown again last saturday and it was just bargains galore. had my budget not been restrictive, i'm sure i could easily spent a few hundred bucks there. here's what i got:
- 100% french rabbit fur jacket $30 (can you believe? now this post won't be about animal cruelty and so on. but it is so lovely... doesn't smell like moth balls, super soft and silky, everything in good condition. awesome!)
- a silvery serving tray for church $1
- big night out book $1
- playboy bikini - brand new $15
- 2 x playboy beach shorts $55
this streetwear store was closing down and everything was half price! so i bought some beachwear for my trip to hawaii. the bikinis are really adorable, but most sizes are 10+ though.
yesterday, my parents and i went to cabramatta. a ritual trip that we take when dad's here. i love cabramatta, so many things to see (and ultimately buy) and eat. mmm.. mmmm....
i scored:
a grey shirt with puffy sleeves and gold detailing on the sleeves - $10
red print ;'tea party' type dress with satin bow on the waist from forcast - $29.95
3 white singlets (my absolute fave staple) and a white top with velvet trim and quirky beaded brooch type - $20
l'oreal tecni.art hot iron serum type thing for my hair - $19.95
they also have a rack chock full of summery sundresses for $15!! but i didn't buy any because none of them caught my eyes...
did i say i love cabra?
i know i promised to post pics, but i keep forgetting this when i'm at home lying in bed, gorging on junk food whilst watching cable. *snort!*
on friday, i finally worked up the courage to drive just beyond my local grocery store (which is practically 2 blocks away from my house) and drove to the next 2 suburbs and later to a factory outlet centre 30 minutes away from home.
mom and i, we went to a few op-shops (thrift shops) and i picked up a bright fushia top and a purple silk skirt, which i will wear as a boob tube with a wide tan belt. i also picked up a pair of summer pj's for my sister, it's so pretty but its more for her size.
at the factory outlet, i scored an alannah hill cardigan for 1/2 price and also a pair of black and white oroton sunglasses with gold details for $40!
the oroton group's hq is in our building and about a week ago they advertised a sample sale for the office residents in this building (but funny enough, it seems that a few 100 people who don't work in our building showed up. HRMPH!). yesterday they had another one, this time it's open for the public and the queue was just insane!
but it was REALLY GOOD. and i mean REALLY GOOD.
when people hear that it was an oroton sample sale, they thought it would just be bags and accessories, but the group also holds other brands like marcs, morrisey, ralph lauren and aldo. when i first went, i spent about 2 hours in the office-turned-to-mini-warehouse and came out with 10 items for about $200. by the second time i went, i was too lazy because i just couldn't be bothered with the queue, but my friends came along later and i decided to go whilst waiting for bf to pick me up. i wasn't really in the mood anymore and could only find a nice stripy shirt for bf. i tried to look for other stuff for my brother, but nothing caught my eye really. my friends on the other hand, had plenty of time to scour around and in the change room was where they hit the jackpot. they too came out with 6-8 items each for about $100! cr@pda@ngit! i should've stayed and asked my bf to stay or come along. LOL.
but you should see these people spending about $400 - $600 with bags and bags of stuff going out the door. i should've come earlier and looked for bags/wallets and stuff, but then again i don't really need these things. i wish i could've spent more time looking for guy's clothes though! so hopefully next time.
i have been meaning to take piccies of these items, but i kept forgetting, so i'll do it soon!
